Savino’s Hideaway Restaurant is a local landmark located on North Country Road in Mount Sinai’s historic district and is a short distance from Cedar Beach. Set in a log cabin, built in 1930 by Carl Heyser, the building originally served as a model and office for Heyser’s plan to build a summer community of log cabins throughout Mount Sinai and Miller Place. His brochures aptly described a “cabin in the woods” that lies in a bucolic and picturesque setting. The idea served to entice city dwellers to spend their summers in a “cozy” log cabin while frolicking along the shores of the Long Island Sound.
